Tarpon Tales EXTRA -- Meet of Champions (MOC) Details

Meet of Champions is coming up on Friday, and here’s the whole scoop!

NOTE: This email is going to the whole team, so if you already RSVPed "not attending," you can disregard all of these details. We will miss you!

WHAT: The Meet of Champions (MOC) is the SHRSL post-season meet where all the teams in a division compete for individual medals/ribbons (top 16 per event) and the division championship. We are part of Division 1 in 2018, along with Greatwood Geysers, Sugar Land Sharks, Pecan Grove Piranhas, and Long Meadow Farms Stars.

WHERE: MOC is on Friday, July 6 at the Don Cook Natatorium. Parking for the nat is in the same lot as Mercer Stadium (not the ice rink lot). Age group tents will be set up outdoors, on the east side of the natatorium.

WHY: MOC is your chance to show all you have learned this season and record your best times! Plus, the fastest swimmers at MOC can move on to the All-Star meet on July 10. All Tarpons swimmers should be eligible to swim in each event in which they have recorded meet times (you’re not limited to just three events like a regular meet). The coaches will enter you in every event you should be in – don’t worry if you didn’t choose events when you opted in.

You should already have opted in to swim at MOC -- if something has changed and you can’t come, email [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] TODAY (MOC is heated early in the week, so no-shows create holes in the lineup that we can’t fill).

SPEAKING OF ALL-STARS: If you are NOT available for All-Stars on July 10, RSVP “Not Attending” for the All-Stars meet NOW. You are welcome to swim at MOC either way, but we need to know to move others up if you earn a spot at All-Stars that you can’t attend.

HOW: Swimmers and parents enter through the front lobby doors of the building when it’s time to swim (swimmers go to the left; spectators to the right). Only age group volunteers go to the ready bench with the swimmers (then they can go to the pool to see the race – ask for info on where to watch). Swimmers exit through the side door near the bleachers after each swim, and spectators go back out the front door. These instructions are for Division 1; Division 2 will be using the far half of the nat at the same time.

Swimmers need to be dry to come into the foyer; bring an extra towel or two. Bring water and snacks for your swimmer to have at the age-group tent, and chairs to sit in outside. The league will have MOC shirts with custom details available for sale (similar to those at UIL and other sports contests), a snow cone truck, and another food truck.

Post-season volunteering is in addition to your 5 regular-season shifts; we need help from every family! You can volunteer at either or both MOC sessions. Select a job that you are confident that you can do well, preferably a job that you have done before (think Volunteering of Champions!).
